Between an idea and a clinic: how to develop a successful medical device

Building a MedTech startup requires more than innovative technology. The first session will explore the product development journey and the key decisions that can determine whether an initial concept develops into a clinically relevant and market-ready medical device.
Participants will gain practical insights into product strategy, clinical needs, engineering execution, regulatory pathways and commercialisation, supported by lessons from real-world medical device projects across different clinical areas.
The session will also highlight common pitfalls and practical strategies that can help teams move more effectively from concept validation towards market entry.
Medical devices: What do you need to know about FDA, MDR, CE and ISO?
14 October 2026 | 15:00–17:00 CET
The second session will focus on the regulatory and quality foundations of medical device development.
Participants will explore the fundamentals of FDA and EU MDR requirements, CE marking, quality management systems and key ISO standards for hardware and hardware-software medical devices.
Using a real product development case study, the session will demonstrate how regulatory considerations can be integrated into the development process from the beginning. It will also address common myths around medical device regulation and explore how smart regulatory planning can support – rather than hinder – commercialisation.
Meet the expert
The Masterclass will be led by Mariusz Mąsior, CEO & CTO at Consonance, who leads technical resources and R&D activities across innovative hardware and software MedTech projects.
A former Co-Founder and CTO at Cardiomatics, he has experience in product development and management of AI-based medical solutions for cardiology. He is also an expert and mentor for the European Innovation Council and EIT Health.
Who should join?
The EIC MedTech Masterclass is designed for EIC Awardees in MedTech and HealthTech, particularly start-ups developing medical devices, including hardware and hardware-software solutions. The Masterclass is open to EIC Pre-Accelerator, Accelerator, Transition, Pathfinder and STEP Scale Up awardees, and other recognised entities, including Horizon Europe Seal of Excellence and STEP Seal holders.
Whether you are validating an initial concept, developing your product or preparing for market entry, the Masterclass will provide a practical opportunity to look beyond the technology itself and consider product development, clinical value, regulatory strategy, quality and market readiness as interconnected parts of the same journey.
